 Anbu and Uma from SRED joined a Learning Exchange APEX Transforming Food Systems Working Group October 19-23, 2024 Kathmandu, Nepal


SRED work among Dalit women about how seeds are collected in villages through bullock cart yatras about natural organic farming, home garden, growing millets by Organic Collective Farm by Dalit women was shared which was apricated by participants from various Asian countries. Listen to the sharing from Philippines, Vietnam about the seed collection and against seeds from corporate awareness created through hand bills by them.


Observation: Nepali farmers ploughing not by tractors but by bulls.  Harvesting is done by farmers not by machine.   Vegetables, Greens, which are grown in their land by are eaten by the people. From young to elders work hard in the field’s livestock such as cows, goats, poultry, ducks are grown by all the families. Learned about 35 variety of paddies.

The organic farming practices by SRED was explained through an LCD display.

From Nepal the participants went to Gabhar valley for home stay and visited farmers.

Learned about how to preserve seeds, used by ashes and rice bran, both men and women involved in ploughing the land.  Natural pest control using cow urine, neem leaves, Anise. Met many women leaders. Very good learning exchange.
