International Day of Rural Women October 15th, 2024
women leaders met to remember the international Day of Rural Women on October 15th Distributed handbills in Tamil to the public. Women do not own land, resources. Women are not recognized as farmers. Women’s contribution in Agriculture is invisible, underpaid and unrecognized. Women do not enjoy basic rights, which is violated, denied, not getting equal wages, and no access to social security. Women’s work is informal, unprotected and exploited.
Rural Women Demand to:
• Recognize women as Farmers
• Women demand equal and minimum wages
• Women ask access to Land for collective farm, credit, resources related to Food production and access to government schemes
World Hunger Day October 16th, 2024
The movement leaders joined together to talk about world hunger instead of the world Food Day by UN. There is food insecurity and hunger which affects the rural poor. The women leaders brought the issues how they earn less, paid lower than men and economically exploited. Land, labor and resources are exploited by Corporates. There is Food insecurity, poverty and women are struggling to survive. Women are fighting against land grab by corporations and demand for land reform.
End hunger – free from violence, oppression and caste discrimination.
